Solmoon® Universe - Field Guide

Everything you need to know about Solmoon® circadian glasses and the complete system.

Conventional sunglasses block UV rays — but they also block the 480nm wavelength that your brain uses to know it's daytime. Solmoon's CircaLens™ lenses use selective spectral filtering: they block 100% of harmful UV radiation and allow up to 70% of the circadian signal that keeps your biological clock synchronized. Same protection. Better biology.
A circadian lens is one designed to interact with light in a biologically intelligent way: it filters out what is harmful and preserves what your body needs. All Solmoon lenses are circadian. The difference is the time of day you wear them and what part of the spectrum they manage.
No, and this distinction is important. Conventional blue light blocking glasses indiscriminately filter blue light, which can disrupt your circadian rhythm during the day. CircaLens™ lenses do the opposite: they selectively preserve the essential 480nm of blue-cyan light during the day, while blocking harmful UV and aggressive HEV blue (400–430nm). Biohacking lenses (yellow, orange, red) do progressively filter that signal as evening and night arrive. It's a complete system, not just a simple filter.
Yes — 100% UV400 protection, blocking all ultraviolet radiation from 280 to 400nm, as well as aggressive HEV blue (400–430nm). CircaLens™ lenses meet all optical safety standards. Preserving the circadian signal does not compromise eye protection in any way.
The circadian rhythm is your body's internal biological clock — a 24-hour cycle that regulates energy, hormones, metabolism, sleep, and recovery. Light is its primary synchronizer. Specific cells in your retina called ipRGCs detect light around 480nm and send signals directly to the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), the brain's master clock. When this signal is blocked during the day, your biological clock loses its reference point.
CIE S 026:2018 is the international standard published by the Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage — the global authority on light, color, and illumination since 1913. This standard officially recognizes the non-visual biological effects of light on the human body: circadian rhythm, melanopsin, ipRGC cells, melatonin, and daytime signal. It is the same authority whose standards are used by Apple, Samsung, and Philips for their screens. Solmoon is the first eyewear brand designed in alignment with this standard.
When your brain doesn't receive the 480nm daylight signal, it enters biological twilight mode — even at midday. Cortisol production drops earlier than it should, melatonin suppression weakens, and your internal clock loses the contrast between day and night. Over time, this leads to metabolic confusion, lack of focus and energy during the day, and less deep and restorative sleep at night.
Near-infrared light (670–950nm) is the part of natural sunlight associated with mitochondrial support and eye health — a process known as photobiomodulation. Conventional glasses block almost 100% of this light. CircaLens™ lenses transmit up to 95% of NIR, allowing your retina to receive this regenerative energy passively while you wear them.
CircaLens™ sunglasses are available in four shades, all with the same circadian spectral technology: Grey (classic, neutral color rendering), Blue (cool tone, high outdoor contrast), Green (warm tone, natural color balance) and our flagship shade Blue/Grey — a unique blend that combines the contrast of blue with the neutrality of grey. All four transmit the same 70% circadian signal and offer 100% UV400 protection.
The Blue/Grey lens is Solmoon's flagship shade — a precise blend of blue and grey that offers superior outdoor contrast without color distortion. It enhances depth perception, reduces glare more effectively than a pure grey lens, and maintains accurate color rendering so the world looks natural. Combined with CircaLens™ technology, it is the most complete lens in the collection: it protects your eyes, preserves your biology, and optimizes your visual experience simultaneously.
All CircaLens™ shades feature the same circadian technology — the choice is purely a matter of visual preference and use. Grey is the most versatile for daily use. Blue enhances contrast in bright environments like the beach or mountains. Green offers a warm tone ideal for mixed light conditions. Blue/Grey is our recommendation for most users — the best balance of contrast, comfort, and color accuracy in a single lens.
Biohacking lenses are the nighttime counterpart to CircaLens™ sunglasses. While sunglasses preserve the daytime signal during the day, biohacking lenses progressively filter out that same artificial signal as evening and night arrive — telling your brain it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep, even if you're surrounded by artificial light. They come in three intensities: Yellow (Sunset Mode), Orange (Dusk Mode), and Red (Night Mode).
Yellow lenses are ideal from late afternoon until early evening (approximately 5:00 PM–8:00 PM), or anytime you work indoors under artificial light or screens during the day. They filter out the most aggressive artificial blue light while maintaining enough signal to stay productive and focused. Your brain begins to understand that the day is coming to an end — without yet losing performance.
Orange lenses are designed for early evening (approximately 8:00 PM–10:00 PM). They eliminate most of the artificial daytime signal, allowing melatonin production to begin actively. Ideal for relaxing, dining, or watching TV without disrupting subsequent sleep. Your brain enters transition mode — the day is over.
Red lenses are the most powerful in the system, designed for the hour before sleep (approximately 10:00 PM onwards). They block virtually all artificial blue light at 480nm. For your brain, it's total darkness — even if the lights are on. Melatonin production reaches its peak. These are the lenses with the greatest impact on sleep quality and recovery the next day.
Yellow lenses can be used indoors during the day under intense artificial lighting — for example, in offices without natural light. Orange and red lenses are not recommended for daytime use, as blocking the 480nm signal during sunlight hours would confuse your biological clock in the opposite direction — making it believe it's night when it's day. Each lens has its optimal window in the 24-hour cycle.
The Solmoon Circadian System is the world's first complete optical system designed around the human biological clock. It consists of four lenses that cover all 24 hours: CircaLens™ sunglasses for daytime outdoor use, yellow lenses for evening and screens indoors, orange lenses for early night, and red lenses for nighttime winding down. Together, they manage the light signal your brain receives from dawn until sleep — keeping your circadian rhythm intact throughout the day.
No. Each lens provides benefits independently. Starting with CircaLens™ sunglasses is already a significant improvement over conventional lenses — your brain receives the correct light signal during the day, which directly impacts energy, focus, and nighttime melatonin production. Adding biohacking lenses progressively amplifies these benefits by also managing the artificial light you are exposed to in the evening and at night.
All Solmoon frames are made of Tritan™ by Eastman — a premium BPA-free copolyester, certified for skin contact. Tritan™ is lightweight, impact-resistant, and durable for all-day use. The same rigor applied to lens technology is applied to every frame component.
Yes. CircaLens™ sunglasses offer full UV400 protection and are designed for outdoor use — beach, sports, driving, hiking. The Tritan™ frame is impact-resistant and lightweight. Consult our range of models to find the frame style best suited for your activity.
Many users report feeling more active and energetic during the day from the first use of CircaLens™ sunglasses, and falling asleep more easily when using biohacking lenses in the evening. More noticeable long-term changes — deeper sleep, more consistent energy levels, and improved mood — are usually seen after 1 to 2 weeks of continuous daily use with the complete system.
